Take the Voice of Jesus Quiz

Why is this book important?

Some books are important because of their contents, others because of their authors.  This book is important for both reasons:

  • Its contents reconstruct the personal vision of Jesus as revealed in his teachings.
  • The author is a major New Testament scholar and the leading authority on the parables of Jesus.

This book encapsulates Robert W. Funk’s ground-breaking approach to the parables of Jesus.

  • For an anthology of Funk’s writings on the parables, see Brandon Scott, ed., Funk on Parables: Collected Essays.
  • To learn more about his work, read the biographical sketches from The Fourth R 19, 4 (March-April, 2006).

Suggested plan for a study group

Divide the book into eight parts and discuss each part in the following order:

  • Introduction, Appendix 3, Chapter 1
  • Chapter 2, Appendix 1, Chapter 3
  • Chapters 4 - 5, Appendix 2
  • Chapters 6 – 7
  • Chapters 8 – 11
  • Chapters 12 – 15
  • Chapters 16 – 17
  • Conclusion

If fewer sessions are possible, combine sessions 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 7 and 8 for a total of five sessions.
